Scotiabank Nuit Blanche
Scotiabank Nuit Blanche: "From dusk until the early pre-dawn hours on September 30, 2006, Toronto buzzed with excitement as Scotiabank Nuit Blanche was first unleashed on an unsuspecting city. Torontonians left behind the comfort of their beds en masse, as 425,000 people ventured out onto the city's streets for an all-night exploration and celebration of contemporary art.
As remarkable and distinctive as the art was, the magic came from the audience response and interaction. Most importantly, through this event a new audience was introduced to contemporary art by making it fun, engaging and accessible.
This event brought together a wide range of sectors and the exceptional talents of more than 400 artists and curators, 300 onsite logistical staff, 200 docents and volunteers, 87 galleries, museums and art institutions, and 13 corporate sponsors and media partners.
Within hours of the sun rising on October 1, hundreds of enthusiastic e-mails, letters and phone calls poured in from artists, participants, volunteers, councillors and event attendees. The inaugural edition of this event received widespread acclaim and accolades. Toronto's Mayor David Miller recognized the importance of bringing this event back as an annual celebration and included it in his political platform when running for a successful re-election in 2006."

Nordlandliebe

Collage Artistry: "Don't fret over stuff, just be yourself. Create what you want and don't worry so much about what people think. After all...everyone else isn't living your life, you are. Enjoy It!
I decided to play along the the girls at 'Point Blank Period' this month. The prompt was 'Get Over It'. So I decided I would do a mini book with the idea. I will be filling the little pockets in this journal with pages of writings of things that I just want to vent about or just get over. Each page has at least one pocket on it, so I can tuck them full of stuff."

Larry Eisenstein New Work 2008-89
Larry Eisenstein New Work 2008-89
Eisenstein’s new drawing show, Cellves, obsesses on the biology of human unconscious processes and asks the questions: Are the laws of nature merely habits? And can they be transformed by art?
The show's genesis is New Biology’s discovery of morphogenetic fields or morphic resonances which biochemist Rupert Sheldrake defines as the “basis of memory in nature....the idea of mysterious telepathy-type interconnections between organisms and of collective memories within species.”
Cellves considers how individuals are able to both draw upon and contribute to this collective memory, and how through morphic resonance new patterns of behavior spread through the world more rapidly.
The New Biology's developmental scientists believe that without a holistic and integrative conception of living organization, our collective survival as a species would drown in oceans of data, as yet more genomes get sequenced, genes get cloned and proteins characterized.
Beginning with random and unconscious marks on paper, followed by labour intensive and painstakingly precise methods in the tradition of brut art, Eisenstein’s depictions of an evolving Cellfe grow like a specimen taken from the drawings of 19th century German biologist Ernst Haeckel, put in a Petri dish and left to morphogenetically rip.
Larry Eisenstein was born, lives and works in Toronto. He has recently updated his career status to re-emerging visual artist.

» Barbie Redux
» Barbie Redux: "Barbie turned fifty this year, time to give her new life! so, I am coordinating an altered Barbie exhibit.
Any one may submit. Consider Barbie a blank canvas. By alteration I mean, painted, cut, re-assembled, decorated, embellished, collaged, tatooed, pierced, melted, sewn, adorned, hanging, standing, sitting, twirling, enclosed. She must be display ready, ie, if she can not stand, provide a stand for her, if she is to be hung, have something from which to hang her by. Be imaginative, turn Barbie into art."

Kjeld Jensen: "1922 – 1998

GRAVEN LIGHT
GRAVEN LIGHT: "GRAVEN LIGHT
Time, shade, shape and color carve light.
The carvings don’t last. Blink, sneeze, turn your head, take half a step too fast or far, and you will miss them. In the instants while they last, they form unexpected patterns, expose secret beauty and reveal junctures of past and future.
I have developed the habit of seeking these engravings. I court time – not with flowers, but with eyes, patience and cameras.

20x200 : iSketch140: "The iSketches are drawn on location using an iPhone application called Brushes. No photo references, no tablets, no brushes to wash: just my finger on the tiny touch-screen. Don't even need a proper light: the drawing itself glows in a dark corner. At $4.99, Brushes is a very democratic tool (provided you have an iPhone, sure) and I suspect it'll be to drawing what email was for letter-writing. Something is lost, something is gained.
I only got an iPhone in February 2009, so all this is still very new. It all started when I realized I could draw while night-riding in a car. Soon I found myself sketching NY spots that are part of my life. I've lived in the USA for 20 years and I'm still looking at its urban landscape as if I was discovering it for the first time."

100Artworks: "Buy art from real graffiti artists
Are you bored of the corrupt pyramid system that is today’s urban art market? With galleries shamelessly over hyping artists and their work and dummy bidding artworks in large well-known auction houses with the intention of creating false market prices. If so this is the place for you...
We are offering a third party service in which REAL graffiti artists can sell their artworks to the public without any backlash from the authorities. All the artists in this section are 100% anonymous graffiti, street and urban artists.
How the system works...
When you pay for an artwork it is shipped (with tracking and full insurance) direct to your door by the artist. After the transaction is complete and you are happy with the artwork received the artist is then paid for his or her work.
In this service we aim to protect the identity of our artists and offer a channel in which otherwise unseen artists can offer their artworks for sale."
