MAP presents two solo exhibitions with photobase works by British artist Ben Nason and Thai Pilaiporn Pethrith May 24 - June 30, 2007."
M.A. Projects - Exhibitions:
"In the more recent series, entitled 'Spare', Nason purposefully moves away from the lyricism and expressionism of his early work. Through the rigours of form and composition, he attempts to find a new way of capturing this alienation. Turning away from his old subject matter, he seeks direct light and neutral spaces. Leaving the lonely and poetic scenes of Night Diary, he decides to photograph an urban park in broad daylight, filled with people out walking. For a year he photographs this space. The spare, washed-out ground of this public garden becomes a stage and the people, captured alone and together and always with their faces hidden or out of frame, become the players in an anonymous and therefore universal human drama."

Jacket 31 - October 2006 - Grzegorz Wróblewski: Two poems: A Summation Scheme (About the Illness of John T.) / Black Head:
"A general state of consciousness?
In the tenement house live a pimp and a carpet-seller.
Neither of them can stand Dante.
they have never set their eyes on him.
Because we’re flooded by light literature and life
is devoid of a single shred of comedy.
A mannerism of thought is out of the question here." . . .

Pilaiporn Pethrith, born 1978, lives and works in Bangkok and Copenhagen., and brings our attention to worldwide situations of complexity and disaster in her mixed media paintings. Pilaiporn combines dramatic news photographs, striking colours, and the ever-present persona of an elf like creation that she calls a Goggle; due to its fixed stare. The Goggle is an eerie and anonymous observer of events, a cartoon silhouette with elfin ears and a single eye. The mood of Pilaiporns paintings is up-tempo and Pop Art but also strangely unsettling. The images provoke many questions; does the Goggle represent us? Is it an impartial observer? A witness? A silent accuser? A practical joker?
Pilaiporn is a graduate of Silapakorn who went on to study Art in Denmark for six years before returning to Thailand. This accounts to some degree for the breadth of focus in her work and her assimilation of the European Elf into her artwork."
